Workers at Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries picketed across the province on Wednesday.

The union representing the workers said the demonstrations were "information pickets," meant to inform patrons about the "drastic cuts" being proposed by the province in its latest budget.

In April, government announced more than half of the province's public libraries would be closing due to budget cuts. That means 54 of the province's 95 libraries will shut their doors.

Workers handed out stickers and buttons during their lunchtime demonstrations in Corner Brook, Stephenville, Grand Falls-Windsor, St. John's, Mount Pearl and Labrador City.
