The town of Conception Bay South will work with the province to find a more affordable space for its public library.

Education minister Dale Kirby called the current 25-year lease at $230,000 a year, a "sweetheart deal."

"I don't know if it was a 'sweetheart deal,'" said mayor Steve Tessier.

"It wasn't put that way to us when we signed it."

Speaking to CBC Radio's St. John's Morning Show on Thursday, Tessier said he has since spoken with Kirby.

"We had a good conversation with minister Kirby, they are fully committed to the library in C.B.S."

Tessier said he knows the province is in hard shape financially and wants both sides to work together to make sure the town can find a more affordable option.
