The RNC is warning scammers have been calling people identifying themselves as someone working with Newfoundland Power, seeking credit card information. Police say the callers are not with the company. (CBC)

The RNC said it received numerous calls on Tuesday from people who were targets of a phone scam.

The fraudster identifies themselves as being with Newfoundland Power, and asks the person on the other line to provide credit card information to pay their power bill or they will "terminate their services immediately."

Police said that Newfoundland Power is not calling customers looking for bill payments.

The RNC is reminding people not to give out personal or banking information over the phone or online, unless company authenticity can be confirmed.
