The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says it has a person of interest in relation to an attack on a couple on George Street in downtown St. John's early Friday morning.

Joshua Dawson, who is also known by his alter ego the Experience Genie, posted a photo of himself to Facebook that showed cuts on his face.

Dawson said he and his fiancée were beaten for no reason by three men who hit and kicked him, leaving him lying on the ground.

In the post, Dawson said he could identify one of the attackers. RNC Const. Steve Curnew confirmed Friday the person Dawson identified is the person of interest in the case.

Curnew said police received a complaint from the couple around 4:30 a.m., and they were treated in hospital for minor injuries and released.

"The file has been forwarded to our criminal investigation division and officers will investigate a file with any bit of information," he said.

Curnew said police will review footage from the closed-circuit security cameras on George Street as part of the investigation.
