Paul Davis less worried about CETA deal, after talk with PM

The premier of Newfoundland and Labrador seemed less worried about reaching a deal on the $400-million fisheries fund, after talking with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Premier Paul Davis said earlier this week that he was troubled that the two sides hadn't reached a final deal on how the money would be used.

Last year, the federal government announced it would provide 70 per cent of the fisheries fund.

Davis said he spoke with Harper on the phone on Wednesday night, and as a result isn't as worried the deal may fall apart.

"The negotiations have already taken place. We've landed at five pillars, we've landed at a fund, now we just need to cross the t's and dot the i's and finalize an agreement on the administration of it," he said.

The money won't be available until the European Free Trade deal, which is still being negotiated, comes into effect.
