Our party insiders discuss the department of justice name change and the upcoming by-elections.

On this week's On Point with David Cochrance, party insiders talk about the name change of the controversial public safety department.

Plus, a Tory-connected mayor goes Liberal, while voters are set to pick new MHAs in three upcoming byelections.

The renamed Department of Justice and Public Safety was a controversial topic for some legal professionals in the province prior to Premier Paul Davis announcing the word justice would be added to the department name.

Davis is standing firm on Judy Manning's appointment to cabinet, but the name of the department she will lead is no longer just public safety, saying the name change is government's response to public concern.

MHAs Jim Bennett, David Brazil and Gerry Rogers were featured on this week's panel to talk about the department name changes and government's response.

The panel also talked about Grand Falls-Windsor Mayor Al Hawkins announcing he would be seeking the Liberal nomination in Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South in the provincial election, and the upcoming byelections that will see three new MHAs elected.
