The price of gasoline is on the rise Thursday morning as the Public Utilities Board continues a gradual increase in the base price of the fuel.

Gas increased by 1.3 cents per litre across the island portion of Newfoundland, putting maximum prices on the Avalon Peninsula at just over $1.73 per litre. Prices vary across the rest of the island depending on location, but range between $1.73 for self service and $1.88 per litre for full service.

Much of Labrador remains under a price freeze on most fuels, but gas prices in Labrador West and Churchill Falls rose by just a tenth of a cent. That adjustment puts maximum prices between $1.73 and $2.16 per litre in the Big Land.

The price of diesel increased by 0.7 cents, except in Labrador West and Churchill Falls where a 0.5 cent per litre decrease was implemented. Changes put maximum prices for the fuel between $1.98 and $2.10 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.81 and $2.25 per litre in Labrador.

Furnace oil increased by over 0.5 cents per litre, meaning customers in Newfoundland will now pay maximum prices between $1.31 and $1.49 per litre depending on their location.

The PUB lowered the price of stove oil in Labrador West and Churchill Falls by 0.2 cents per litre. That means customers in Labrador will now pay maximum prices between $1.20 and $1.69 per litre depending on their location.

Propane increased in price, up 0.3 cents per litre across much of the province and by 0.4 cents in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. The adjustment puts maximum prices between $1.14 and $1.29 per litre and between 97 cents and $1.32 per litre in Labrador.

The base price mark-up for gasoline, diesel and furnace oil will eventually increase by four cents per litre in most pricing zones. That process began last week, and will continue in one cent per litre increments each week until Feb. 27.
