Craig Smith of Portugal Cove-St. Philips is a dog lover and an avid home baker, and he's combined both his passions to make home-baked treats for dogs.

"People go to Tim Horton's and other restaurants and they give them [their dogs] out of a bit of a Timbit," Smith said.

"But all the sugar and added fat is not really good for the dog."

Smith's solution was to start baking for his two-year-old Bernese mountain dog, Brewski.

"So we came up with the idea to do our own fresh-baked product that is safe for pets that people could give their dog as a real, real special treat."

Smith has been making fresh baked cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, cannolis, and even cheesecakes for dogs, using natural ingredients.

He admitted that Brewski eats better than he does.

"Most time I don't even eat supper, because I'm too busy baking for the pets."
