Chuck Herriott shows off his Newfoundland Railway inspired Christmas model

There is a little piece of Newfoundland next to a Christmas tree in one St. John's home this year — and it's modelled after a piece of history.

Chuck Herriott has been building an elaborate train set based on the Newfoundland Railway for the past three years.

"It's Newfoundland — it's a Newfoundland Christmas layout. You've got Cabot Tower there, you're got the Bonavista Lighthouse," Harriott said.

All the mini landmarks, including rural houses and row houses, are handmade.

"I built them for my son when he was five so [the buildings] were about 10-years-old and I adapted them for this layout."

Watch the video above, as Herriott gives us a show-and-tell of his masterpiece.
