New St. John's municipal plan adapts to 'rapid pace'
The City of St. John's has released a draft of its new municipal plan, Envision St.John's, the first overview in more than a decade.
The municipal plan outlines the visions and principles St. John's will use to guide development in the city.
The current plan has been in place since 2003.
Coun. Tom Hann, chair of the planning and development committee, says the plan was shaped by what residents have said about the kind of city they want to live in.
"This city is going to be moving forward at a rapid pace," said Hann. "There will be more development so how do we balance that out with what residents see as a good community in which to live and raise a family."
The plan has been released for public discussion and review. St. John's will hold public consultations about the municipal plan this fall.
The provincial government will eventually have to approve the municipal plan, which St. John's is aiming to have done in 2015.
