New millionaires claim lotto prize, but $5M ticket still unclaimed
One Paradise couple is celebrating a $1 million win after a 6/49 draw this week, but there's still a jackpot gone unclaimed — and one Newfoundland lottery player doesn't know they're $5 million richer.
Jay and Heather Griffin became the province's newest millionaires in Saturday night's draw, and they were all smiles when they claimed their prize Wednesday.
Griffin bought his ticket online and got an email Sunday from the Atlantic Lottery Corporation telling him about his big win - a message he was more than happy to show to his wife.
"There's a freedom here now that we didn't have last week," Griffin said.
"I said [to her], 'What does it say?' and she read it out, and it was a lot of fun."
Rather than celebrating the win, Griffin said he went about his day as if nothing was different — he grabbed a cup of coffee and headed into work.
While the Griffin family is celebrating their new wealth, there's still one jackpot winner who hasn't come forward yet.
A ticket worth $5 million was sold in the Corner Brook area recently.
The ALC says no one has come forward to claim that prize.
If I had a million dollars …
CBC's Krissy Holmes headed out to the Avalon Mall in St. John's Wednesday to ask people what they would do if they won the lottery.
Real estate, travel and helping out family seemed to be top priority for most people.
