New evidence in Alyssa Davis street racing case delays plea

The Crown and defence agreed to a delay in the case of the 17-year-old driver charged in the death of Alyssa Davis.

There's been a delay in the case of a young woman charged in the death of Alyssa Davis, the 17-year-old killed in a car crash in Conception Bay South in 2015.

In court on Tuesday, the Crown said new evidence came forward in the last few days that needs to be examined by the police.

The young woman was expected to enter a plea but both defence and Crown attorneys agreed to the delay while the new information is investigated.

She can't be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. She was 17 when she crashed the car Davis was riding in, killing Davis.

The young woman is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death as well as dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while street racing causing death.

Another young offender was originally charged with street racing in Davis's death but pleaded guilty to dangerous driving instead.
