Natuashish missing teen: Every home, cabin searched for James Poker
A massive search for a missing teenager in northern Labrador will continue Thursday morning, after similar ground and air searches turned up nothing over the last week.
James Poker, 17, was reported missing to police around noon on Monday.
He hasn't been seen since early Sunday afternoon in Natuashish.
People from the town, along with nearby Nain and Hopedale, are taking part in a ground search outside of the community, looking in several cabins along the way.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Don Rogers said additional resources are being sent to the region to assist with the search.
"The aerial search continues with a helicopter and a FLIR [thermal imaging] device making patrols and searches of all the trails in the area around Natuashish this morning with no results," said Rogers.
"A fixed wing aircraft through Fire and Emergency Services was also sent in today with an additional FLIR device and they'll be conducting further search, further out than the other searchers."
He added that every spot has been searched for Poker, with no results.
"All the residences of the community have been checked, we've gone door to door to every single residence in the community. We've checked all the cabins in the outlying area, we've got ground search and rescue teams on snowmobile and snowshoes checking cabins, checking trails," he said.
"We've had the search and rescue teams from Hopedale and from Nain that have headed to Natuashish and met up with searchers from Natuashish along the way, so at this point in time we have no firm sightings and no positive news."
So far, the RCMP have no leads in the missing person case and they don't have an exact location of where Poker was last seen.
"You sort of have to use your knowledge of the community. You have to use members of the community, family members, basically any resource that may have information that may assist it," said Rogers.
The vast geography is further compounding the difficulties in finding the teen.
A Cormorant helicopter out of Gander searched for Poker Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.
No trace of the Poker was found.
