A tentative agreement has been reached by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) for nearly 3,000 home care workers across Newfoundland and Labrador after just over two months of conciliation,

NAPE said Monday the tentative agreement covers 17 home care facilities in the province and includes increases to monetary compensation and contract language for employees.

Further details of the agreement will be presented to the members at ratification meetings.

"The provincial government should be commended for recognizing the vital role that home care workers play in our province by providing the funds necessary to help us reach this tentative agreement," said NAPE president Jerry Earle in a release.

Negotiations are still underway with some of the province's home care agencies, but the union is optimistic that this tentative agreement will pave the way for the remainder of negotiations to have a fast resolution.
