MUN Harlow students make video of Beaumont Hamel visit
A group of students from Memorial University of Newfoundland took part in a special Remembrance Day ceremony at the Beaumont-Hamel's Memorial in France.
24 students and two professors, currently studying at Memorial's Harlow campus in England, made the trek across the English channel to the site in Northern France.
It's where on July 1, 1916, 801 soldiers with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment entered into the Battle of the Somme. The day after, 255 were dead, 386 were wounded and 91 were missing. Just 68 answered the roll call on July 2.
Stephanie Tucker, a fourth year communication studies student created a video based on the visit. In it, her classmates are reading the poem "Verse" by John Oxenham. You can watch the video above.
Memorial University of Newfoundland was created to remember and pay tribute to the individuals of Newfoundland and Labrador who fought and died during the First World War.
