It was a chilly but mostly sunny day for the Downtown Santa Claus Parade in St. John's on Sunday afternoon.

Parade organizers said that over 55,000 people came out for the annual event. Large crowds could be seen gathered on downtown streets to see the parade as it moved by.

Those watching on the street were treated to dancers, colourful floats, marching bands and Christmas music.

More than 3000 pounds of food and about $15,000 in cash was collected for the Community Food Sharing Association. Fortis Inc. lived up to their promise of matching the funds raised by the association during the parade.
