Last weekend to hit the hills at Marble Mountain
Marble Mountain will close ski trails on April 2
Avid skiers and snowboarders have one more chance to hit the hills at Marble Mountain before the end of the snow season.
The ski resort will be closing its runs on Sunday for the year, three months after starting the season on Dec. 31.
The closure is disappointing to Joanne Legge, a long-time skier who said the snow is just getting into a near-perfect condition. Legge said spring skiing is the best.
"The snow is nicer to ski on, and it's warm, and everybody comes out because of the weather and it just makes people happy," she said.
Legge said there's still a lot of winter in Corner Brook, and she'd prefer if the hill found a way to stay open later in the year.
"This weekend is way too soon. I mean — I think we still probably have about another six weeks of winter left, and for anybody who skis, I mean this is what we do all winter long," she said.
"So now the next six weeks are going to be, you know, a little bit of a drag because the hill's not going to be open."
A spokesperson for Marble Mountain said the resort budgeted for a closing date, and doesn't have any more money available to extend the skiing season.
A snowmobile race is scheduled on the hill on April 8 and 9.
