Man facing prison time for 2 Holyrood armed robberies
Steven Friedrich, who committed two violent robberies in Holyrood last fall, could be facing over three years in jail.
The 20-year-old from Conception Bay South was caught on camera robbing the Circle K Irving twice in the fall of 2014.
In September, he used a baseball bat to break the glass in the door to get inside.
He did the same thing at the same business less than two weeks later.
Family tip
In an unusual turn of events, Friedrich's mother and grandmother notified the RCMP that he was responsible for the robberies after they saw video of the crimes on television.
Friedrich later admitted to police that he committed both crimes. In court on Tuesday, he pleaded guilty.
During the crimes, he stole about $350 in cash and 10 packs of cigarettes.
For his sentencing, his lawyer and the Crown are jointly recommending three years in jail.
However, Judge James Walsh asked to see case law from the lawyers, feeling the three years might not be enough since there was some violence involved.
Friedrich admits he swung the bat during the October robbery and hit an employee in the wrist after the clerk refused to give him cigarettes. The swing also broke the store's debit machine.
Friedrich is expected back in court on Feb. 25.
