Long lines at the pumps, as prices drop to lowest in 22 months
Plunging oil prices triggered another cut Thursday at gas stations across Newfoundland and Labrador, with pump prices dropping to their lowest since late 2012.
The Public Utilities Board ordered retailers to drop the maximum price on all grades of gas by as much as 5.6 cents per litre. The change may be a little less in some pricing zones because of rounding for taxes.
Thursday's price setting means that the most a retailer on the Avalon Peninsula, for instance, can charge for one litre of self-serve unleaded is now $1.273 per litre.
Prices have not been that low since Christmas 2012.
Long lines at the pumps
"When fuel prices are high, every little bit counts, you know, "said Everett Ryder, waiting to fill up his vehicle at Costco.
"I'm a senior and I'm retired, so, it helps. I guess it just gives you a few more bucks to buy fuel or groceries or whatever. It gives you a few more bucks ... stretches your dollar any way you look at it."
Most other fuels drop in price
Diesel prices also dropped in price, by three cents per litre.
The costs for home-heating fuel also dropped again. Furnace oil dropped by 2.47 cents a litre, as did stove oil.
Propane used for heating did not change in price.
