No one in custody in Livingstone Street homicide investigation
Cyrus Clarke, 27, dies in hospital of stabbing injuries
While police said Monday that an arrest was made in the Livingstone Street homicide investigation, it turns out that arrest was made almost a week ago — the day of the incident, before the victim died.
No charges have been laid yet and no one is in custody, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary confirmed Monday.
Cyrus Clarke, 27, died over the weekend, nearly a week after he was found in serious condition on Livingstone Street, at Carters Hill Place.
A RNC spokesperson told reporters at a press conference Monday afternoon that an arrest had been made, but did not say when or indicate the timeline. Police later confirmed a person was arrested that day and then released.
In an outpouring of support on social media, Clarke is being remembered as an insightful, loving and talented person.
Police were initially called to a disturbance at 2 p.m. Tuesday. They later said it was a stabbing.
The parties involved are believed to be known to one another and police therefore don't fear for public safety.
"We have identified suspects and we are working actively to gather information pertaining to this incident," RNC Const. James Cadigan during the news conference Monday
Cadigan said there was a group of people in the area at the time of the stabbing.
Officers are searching the neighbourhood for video evidence to "solidify our angle," Cadigan said
