Advance polling stations opened across Canada on Friday morning and voters in Newfoundland and Labrador were lining up to cast their ballots.
Waiting times varied, with some people reporting waits of up to an hour.
"The turnout has been exceptional, there were people waiting at the doors as we were opening," said Max Harvey, a field liaison officer with Elections Canada.
Harvey said all the polls in the province opened on time.
Advance polling runs from October 9 to October 12, with polls open from noon to 8 p.m.
Voters can visit the Elections Canada website to find the location of their nearest polling station.
