Katarina Roxon swims to 5th place finish at Paralympics

Katarina Roxon of Kippens just missed the podium at the 2012 Paralympics on Saturday, finishing fifth in the women's SB8 100-metre breaststroke.

Roxon’s time was 1:27.07.

Halfway through the race the 19-year-old swimmer was within 0.7 seconds of the eventual bronze medallist from Poland.

Roxon ended the race less than five seconds out of a medal time.

Olesya Vladykina of Russia won gold, with a world-record 1:17.17.

Roxon did not qualify for the final of her previous race, the S9 100-metre butterfly.

She is scheduled to compete in another four individual events and two relays at the Games.
