Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's planned day in western Newfoundland has been cancelled following what his office is calling "severe weather conditions."

Trudeau's official visit to Corner Brook was supposed to kick off at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, but his office updated the itinerary Monday evening with the change.

The Prime Minister's Office posted an update on its website Monday evening stating that Trudeau's trip to western Newfoundland had been cancelled. (pm.gc.ca)

Items on the itinerary for Trudeau's visit included a visit with families to discuss the Canada Child Benefit, a press conference and a meeting with Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Dwight Ball at MUN's Grenfell Campus.

Trudeau was also planning to meet with members of the Little Port fishing community.

It's not clear if the trip will be rescheduled.

Prior to the news of the cancelled trip, the itinerary for Trudeau's visit showed three planned events at MUN's Grenfell Campus and a visit to Little Port Harbour. (pm.gc.ca)
