Justice Robert Stack to oversee rewriting of electoral boundaries

Justice Robert Stack has been appointed as chairperson of the Newfoundland and Labrador Electoral Districts Boundaries Commission. 

Stack, a Supreme Court Justice with the trial division, will oversee the rewriting of electoral boundaries in the province.

Speaker of the House of Assembly Wade Verge now has five days to chose four commissioners to work with Stack to redefine the districts.

Verge will ask the governing Progressive Conservatives to submit two nominees and for the Liberals and NDP to submit one nominee for the boundaries commission.

Premier Paul Davis originally wanted to slash ten seats from the House and Assembly, but later reached a deal with the Liberals to cut eight instead.

Davis has said he will give the commission 120 days to rewrite the electoral map.
