Infographic: The numbers behind the Wabush Mines shutdown

We put together some of the figures at what the now-defunct iron ore mine has meant to the economy in Labrador West.

Wabush Mines has effectively shut down, with parent company Cliffs Natural Resources saying operating costs at its Scully mine are unsustainable. It costs more to produce a ton of iron ore in Wabush than in many other mines, meaning that Wabush is not competitive.

The closure affects nearly 400 workers in Wabush, plus dozens more who rely on the ore that's been produced there. Here's a look at what the mine has meant to the economy in Labrador West.
