Impaired driving causing death charge laid in connection to Thornlea crash

Whitbourne RCMP have charged a 67-year-old man with impaired driving causing death, in connection with a two-vehicle crash that killed an elderly woman in Thornlea Friday night.
Police also charged the man with driving while prohibited, failing to remain at the scene and failure to provide a breath sample.
The accused is being held in custody until his next court appearance.
The victim, an 83-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was the lone occupant of the vehicle she was operating.
Police said the passenger of the other vehicle was arrested on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated matter, and is also being held in custody until his next court appearance.
RCMP closed Route 201 in Thornlea at about 7:30 p.m. Friday night after the crash occurred. The road was closed for several hours.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of a traffic reconstruction specialist and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
