Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro says it's waiting for better weather conditions before bringing a new combustion turbine onto the power grid.

The Crown corporation said in a statement Monday the new $120-million generator is ready to be hooked into the system, but forecasted weather conditions aren't ideal.

Last week, Hydro said there was a possibility of some outages for a number of customers once testing started and the generator was brought online.

On Monday, the company said work was completed over the weekend that involved testing the turbine, but it is waiting for an "appropriate weather window" before conducting further work to bring it online.

Hydro said while the adverse weather conditions mean the turbine can't yet be hooked into the system to provide extra generation capacity, "Hydro has the required generation available to meet customer demand with strong reserves."
