A story this week about Memorial University history professor Ranee Panjabi, who wouldn't wear an FM transmitter because of what she cited as religious reasons, drew a torrent of responses on social media. 

The story struck a nerve with people, some of whom to upset to learn similar complaints had been laid as far back as 1985.
