The students from Holy Heart of Mary are putting off "Wizard of Oz" onstage at Holy Heart Theatre March 31 and April 1.

The cast and crew of The Wizard of Oz are gearing up for a weekend of performances at Holy Heart of Mary High School in St. John's.

One of the leads in the play is Grade 10 student Mackenzie Drover, who plays Dorothy, and she says she's excited to be playing the iconic role first made famous by Judy Garland.

"It's just the classic story of Dorothy meeting the Lion, Scarecrow, and Tinman, and of course Oz and it's just a whole lot of fun," said Drover.

The musical will feature lots of cool effects, including a stage design that features flying — and more.

"It's the most set pieces we've ever had for a musical ever," said Drover.

Opening night performances, scheduled for Friday, have been cancelled and pushed to Sunday due to weather.

The Wizard of Oz will be performed on April 1 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and April 2 at 7:30 p.m.
