HMP ruckus leads to mischief charge
An inmate at Her Majesty's Penitentiary has a new charge against him, following the latest incident at the St. John's institution.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the man, 34, is being charged with mischief after causing some damage late Tuesday afternoon.
The RNC is not commenting on the extent of the damage, but said no one was injured.
The man is expected to appear Wednesday in provincial court.
Earlier this week, three inmates were charged after another prisoner was attacked with a broom stick. It comes on the heels of several violent episodes, including a riot last August and a co-ordinated attack in February in the penitentiary's chapel.
NAPE, which represents guards at HMP, says it is concerned about safety at the aging penitentiary.
