There was a close call aboard the offshore rig GSF Grand Banks on Thursday.
A spokesperson for Husky Energy says a hang off line retention clamp dropped about 13 metres to the drill floor.
Nobody was hurt.
But Husky has called the incident a "high potential near miss."
"A Time Out for Safety was taken, rig operations were suspended and a safety stand down was communicated by the offshore installation manager to the drill team once the rig floor was secure," Husky said in a release issued on Friday.
Husky says it is investigating the accident.
