Search and rescue crews used two helicopters Sunday to aid in the search for a man believed to have gone over a cliff in Flatrock early Saturday evening.

A number of small boats, as well as a larger coast guard vessel, were used by divers as they searched the waters in an area commonly known as The Beamer.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers and the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report that a man had fallen over the cliff's edge around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Local fishermen and Rovers Search and Rescue had boats in the water Saturday evening.

They were unable to locate the man, however, and the search was called off until daylight Sunday.

Police said the matter does not appear to be suspicious.

RNC told CBC News Sunday afternoon that police could not yet confirm the identity of the man.
