Geoff Stirling, founder of NTV, dies at 92

Newfoundland and Labrador broadcasting and publishing pioneer Geoff Stirling passed away Saturday night.

Stirling died at the age of 92 in his home in Torbay at around 11 p.m.

He founded the weekly newspaper The Sunday Herald in St. John's in 1946.

Stirling cofounded CJON and later launched CJON-TV, the province's first television station, in 1955.

He was involved in broadcasting enterprises throughout Ontario and Quebec.

Stirling was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2001.
