Omar Alsayed Ali knows what it's like to arrive in Newfoundland after escaping conflict in Syria.
His family was the first to arrive in Gander this summer. Since then, Alsayed Ali has already found work at a local restaurant.
To greet his new community members, Alsayed Ali brought Canadian pins and Canadian flags to the airport early Friday morning for the new family as a welcoming gift.
"I'm here in Gander three months, all the people here are very, very good," said Alsayed Ali.
"Very happy, my children are now in school."
