From Gander to Broadway: Newfoundlander cast in Come From Away

When Come From Away, the hit musical based on Gander's experience after 9/11, comes to Broadway in 2017, there will be a familiar face on the stage.

Newfoundland's Petrina Bromley will appear in the Broadway production, which is set to hit the stage next February.

She's had experience playing the same role during previous runs of the production in Seattle and San Diego.

But when she takes the stage on Broadway, it will be her biggest spotlight to date. 

"It just doesn't seem real, it feels like a bit of a dream," she said, in an interview with CBC's Central Morning Show.

Growing up with dreams of singing on Broadway, Bromley said it's hard to believe that her dream will be realized. 

"To have it actually be happening, I think I'm a little doubting it my own self," she said.

"Until I actually set foot on the stage in New York, I think I will still be going, you know … anything could happen."

Next stop Gander? 

The play's writers David Hein and Irene Sankoff told CBC News they are thrilled to have the play heading to Broadway.

"It's a real blessing to be able to share it with so many people at this point," said Hein.

"I think audiences come out just really enjoying seeing all the hundreds of stories that we came back with packed into this 90-minute musical."

In California and Washington, the duo said the play has been received very positively, and always it seems, someone mentions their connection to Newfoundland. 

"I love how there's always somehow a Newfoundlander in the audience,"said Sankoff. 

"We're in San Diego or we're in Seattle and suddenly somebody's like you're talking about home."

The play will have a two month run in Toronto beginning in November before heading stateside, and both writers said they have plans to bring the play back to Gander in the future.
