The Newfoundland and Labrador Progressive Conservative Party announced Friday that former auditor general John Noseworthy will be its candidate in the next provincial election in the district of Signal Hill–Quidi Vidi.

Noseworthy will challenge the current district representative – NDP leader Lorraine Michael – for the seat.

Noseworthy announced his intentions this week after publicly saying the Liberal party had offered him its leadership.

The Liberals have denied that claim.

Meanwhile, three people are running for the Conservative Party's nomination in Labrador West. Peter McCormack, Nick McGrath and Olympic gold medal curler Mark Nichols have all expressed interest in the candidacy.

The party is expected to announce its candidate for the district on Wednesday.
