Drunk driver caught when vehicle breaks down on Fogo Island

An impaired 28-year-old man was arrested on Fogo Island Sunday morning as his stolen truck ground to a halt.

The accused drunk driver hit another parked vehicle outside a bar in Fogo at about 3 a.m. Sunday, RCMP say. 

The man attempted to keep driving his stolen vehicle, but it eventually broke down and police located him.

Cpl. Shaun Coady with the Fogo Island RCMP detachment said the white Dodge truck went through a ditch and over a stop sign before finally giving out.

The Gambo man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, impaired driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Police say their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
