A health board in Newfoundland and Labrador is restricting visits to a nursing home due to an increase in gastrointestinal illness.

Eastern Health says only immediate family members can enter Saint Luke's Home in St. John's.

The health authority is reminding the public not to visit seniors' residences if they aren't feeling well due to a gastrointestinal or respiratory illness.

People are also urged to wash their hands frequently and cover their faces when coughing or sneezing when visiting a nursing home.
