Flat Bay powow kicks off with traditional Mi'kmaq wedding
The tenth annual powwow in Flat Bay was kicked off this year with a traditional Mi'kmaq wedding. CBC's Colleen Connors was there to capture it all.
This year's powwow in Flat Bay started with a special ceremony: A traditional Mi'kmaq wedding.
Bride Cindy Hepditch and groom Perry Young exchanged bannock, vows, rings and feathers during the rare ceremony.
Conne River Chief Mi'sel Joe officiated at the event.
"I follow my culture to the core," said Young.
"It's very special to me to be married this way. It's a positive enlightenment on my culture and my life."
This year marks the tenth running of the powwow in Bay St. George.
