Eager Power Gentle Fury, the new album by The Novaks, is stripped down rock and roll, which frontman Mick Davis says reflects the personalities and mood changes in the band.

"Years ago, a review came out of Edmonton," recalled Davis.

"The guy said, paraphrasing, 'The Novaks are mean enough to come to your house party and tear it all apart, but sweet and gentle enough to clean up the mess the next day.'"

Eager Power Gentle Fury is the band's first recording in six years. Davis, the band's guitarist and lead singer, said that was simply because band members were busy doing other things.

"The band was on the road for a decade," said Davis. "And you keep coming back with no money, so you get busy at home."

In recent years, band members have found work in the local film and television industry, with other musical projects, and have held other side jobs.

The Novaks had spent the early 2000s touring the country, working with recording labels and management companies to break into the North American music industry.

Now the band works independently.

The Novaks are probably one of the rockinest bands ever to come out of this province. It's been a long six years since they have released new recordings. Now they're back with a new album, Eager Power Gentle Fury.
