Emergency crews worked for hours to contain a large fire that broke out early Sunday morning at the Iron Ore Company of Canada mine in Labrador City.
According to a post shared on IOC's Facebook page shortly before 9 a.m., "a fire response effort" was underway in the pellet plant loadout area.
Access to the site was restricted as emergency crews worked to contain the fire.
CBC News received reports that the fire started around 2:30 a.m.
Sources say operations shut down around 5 a.m., and some workers were temporarily sent home.
Fire crews from Labrador City worked alongside firefighters from the mine and, according to IOC, no one has been injured.
The fire comes on the same day that 50 to 60 mine workers are expected to be laid off.
