Marine Atlantic cancels all Wednesday crossings, anticipates disruptions this weekend
Company warns more cancellations possible if current forecast holds
There are disruptions on the Marine Atlantic ferry service Wednesday due to gale force winds expected in the Cabot Strait.
All morning and evening crossings between Port aux Basques and North Sydney were cancelled ahead of the weather conditions Wednesday.
Southeast winds were expected to ramp up in the Cabot Strait from 15 knots Wednesday morning to 40 by noon.
Westerly winds are then expected to remain in the 35-40 knot range — which is 63 to 72 km/h — through Thursday.
The service has seen several disruptions in the last few weeks due to weather.
A decision has not yet been made on whether Thursday's crossings will be cancelled.
Outlook not great for next few days
A spokesperson for Marine Atlantic said crossings on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 23 and 24, could be impacted, too based on the current forecast.
Marine Atlantic wanted to give "advance notice to our customers in an effort to give them sufficient time to look at their individual travel circumstances and whether other crossings may be an option," said spokesperson Darrell Mercer in an email late Monday morning.
Passengers who want to make alternate travel arrangements can call Marine Atlantic's reservation line at 1-800-341-7981.
