2 men face charges after weekend standoff on Feild Street in St. John's
Residents were told to shelter in place during Saturday standoff
Two men face multiple charges following an armed standoff on Feild Street near downtown St. John's on Saturday, police said Monday.
A 34-year-old man faces seven charges including assault, several weapon possession charges including possession of a weapon obtained by crime and possession with the knowledge it is unauthorized, and breaches of a firearm prohibition and a probation order.
A 19-year-old has also been charged with careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession and possessing a weapon with ammunition.
The standoff started just before 10 a.m. NT Saturday when police responded to a house on Feild Street following reports of a weapons offence.
Officers had rifles drawn and pointed at the house around 2 p.m., and tactical police entered the house around 2:30 p.m. The men were removed from the house and arrested around 3:30 p.m.
During the incident, police asked residents of the area to stay in their homes and the public to avoid the area.
Both men are in custody to appear in provincial court.
