Woman killed in collision with moose near Whitbourne

A 45-year-old woman died Saturday night after the car she was a passenger in ran into a moose a few kilometres east of Whitbourne, near Ocean Pond.

A 45 year-old woman died Saturday night after the car she was a passenger in ran into a moose a few kilometres east of Whitbourne, near  Ocean Pond.

The Whitbourne detachment of the RCMP said Sunday that the vehicle was travelling east on the Trans-Canada Highway around 10:30 p.m. when the accident occurred. 

Ambulance and fire officials also responded to the crash but the woman died of her injuries at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was treated at the Newhook Medical Clinic in Whitbourne and later released.

The Placentia RCMP along with the RCMP Traffic Services Division are investigating.

The victim's name has not yet been released.
