E-cigarette legislation coming for N.L., says Premier Paul Davis
Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Paul Davis says government is working on legislation to regulate e-cigarette sales in this province.
In the House of Assembly Tuesday, Liberal MHA Andrew Parsons asked government if there was a plan to introduce legislation.
Davis said government takes the issue very seriously and has been reviewing how legislation and regulation could work here.
"We've been looking at options for legislation, we've reviewed what other jurisdictions are doing, and our plan is to bring forward legislation to the House of Assembly when we've completed our comprehensive review of the entire circumstance," said Davis.
In Nova Scotia, regulations for e-cigarette sales are already in place. Other provinces are looking at creating rules surrounding sales.
Davis said government is keeping the health of the province's population as a priority and will review what's being done elsewhere to ensure any laws here would be comprehensive.
"We're doing that work, we're doing the jurisdictional scans," he said. "When we've got that completed and we've got a framework for legislation we'll be bringing it forward."
