A Trinity Bay man accused of drunk driving causing death is still behind bars following a brief court appearance in Harbour Grace Tuesday.

George Malcolm Whalen of Thornlea consented to remain in custody, and his case has been set over to Aug. 12.

The 67-year-old faces four charges in connection with a two-vehicle collision July 8 in the community that resulted in the death of Jane Newhook, an 83-year-old woman from nearby Norman's Cove-Long Cove.

Whalen has been in custody since his arrest.

Newhook was in Thornlea to have supper with some family and friends, but died at the scene after the two vehicles collided on a bend in the road just after 7 p.m.
