We often hear that your choice of vehicle is a direct reflection of your personality. Just Google a few key words and you’ll find loads of information, much of it tongue in cheek, offering insight into what your purchase says about the size of your ego. Or your wallet.

But there are also lots of people who take this seriously. After all, it’s central to the whole idea of marketing. Just a month ago, a researcher by the name of Magnus Roos released a study based on information provided by more than a thousand fellow Swedes. Among his conclusions:

“It has been statistically proven that introverts are more likely to own a Volvo or an Opel, while extroverts tend to own a Peugeot. Agreeable individuals seem to prefer a Japanese brand, such as Toyota or Nissan, while people with more antagonistic orientation are more likely to own a Volvo or Ford. Further findings are that people who are more open tend to own a Hyundai, impulsive types are more likely to own an Opel, while the emotionally unstable more often own a Peugeot or Skoda," according to Magnus Roos PhD, researcher and design psychologist, Veryday agency, Sweden.

It’s worth noting that you can’t buy an Opel,  Peugeot or Skoda in Newfoundland and Labrador, so some of  this information doesn’t translate. Nor does Dr. Roos mention people who choose electric cars or pickup trucks. But he certainly makes the point: you are what you drive.

Which brings us back to this week’s video. Because when you're running for public office, personality is everything. So we thought it's only natural to check in with the two leading candidates in the race to be mayor of the great City of St. John's. Click the button to see what drives Dennis O’Keefe and Sheilagh O’Leary.
