A dramatic scene on Monday morning saw a pickup truck engulfed in flames, and police now say there were human remains inside the vehicle. The CBC's Terry Roberts explains the situation around what police are calling a suspicious death.

Investigators are probing what they're calling a suspicious death after human remains were found on Monday inside a pickup on a dirt road in Bay Roberts, along Newfoundland's Conception Bay.

The RCMP confirmed in a Wednesday afternoon news release that its major crimes unit is investigating, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is also involved.

The pickup, a blue 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, was discovered Monday morning on Country Road.

CBC News also obtained photographs of the truck, engulfed in flames.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jolene Garland was unable to confirm whether it was the same pickup in which the remains were discovered.

Investigators have not released the identity of the remains, an age or gender.

Anyone who may have sighted the pickup between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. NT on Sept. 30 are also asked to contact the RCMP.
