Coyote spotted in Paradise subdivision
Municipal enforcement officers to step up patrols
The Town of Paradise says it has a received report of a coyote walking in a residential neighbourhood, off St. Thomas Line.
While it's not uncommon for there to be coyote sightings — especially in areas that back on to wooded areas — the town said it doesn't receive calls about wild animals very often.
Wildlife officers were called to check out the Summit Drive area, after a complaint had been received.
An animal was also spotted walking down nearby St. Thomas Line.
Municipal enforcement officers will step up patrols in the area and report any sightings to environment and conservation officials.
The Department of Environment and Conservation urges residents to keep their pets inside or under supervision when outside.
"Roaming or unattended pets are an easy target for coyotes," the department states on its website. "Have pets spayed or neutered to avoid attracting coyotes."
The department adds that residents should limit the use of birdseed outside their homes.
