Court rejects moose-vehicle crash class action lawsuit appeal
The lawyer in the long-running moose-vehicle class action lawsuit says the plaintiffs' appeal has been rejected by Newfoundland and Labrador's Court of Appeal.
Lawyer Ches Crosbie said in a press release that while the court agreed the public has a right to drive on highways unmolested by moose, any financial burden from a collision isn't the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador's responsibility.
The lawsuit, launched by more than 100 victims of moose-vehicle crashes in 2011, went to trial in April 2014.
A judge dismissed it in September 2014. In 2015, lawyers argued their case in front of a panel of three appeal judges.
Despite the rejection, Crosbie said plaintiffs are still reviewing their options. He called on Premier Dwight Ball to provide "compassionate compensation" to those who suffered the most severe injuries.
